A Little Old Lady With a Red Coat

By: Symphony Marie

A little old lady with white hair and a sweet, wrinkled smile walks through the park every morning for a while.

A struggling student drove past her indifferently each morning for years. Often hiding her tears.

Little did she know that an anxiety was eating at her from the inside out showing no mercy when she cried for help.

The student looked out the frozen window and the little old lady simply waddled.

Her feet sunken in the snow and a large red coat protecting her from the wind’s blow.

She smiled at me with her red, rosy cheeks in a kindhearted way that made me stop to think.

“This shall pass” I said to myself driving by the woman walking like an elf.

These morning moments continued almost everyday. A split second in passing that made me slow down and pray.

The little old lady smiles the same. A face that I began to be able to return. Slowly feeling less gray.

A woman who I have never spoken a word to. A woman whose name I may never know.

She saved my life 6 months ago and each morning I see her glow.

A little old lady in a red coat. Who would have thought she would give me hope.
